Food Off My Table

The Food off My Table (FOMT) project is an initiative aimed at giving the children benefitting from the scholarship programs of the Bethesda Nursery and Primary Schools the opportunity to have a meal in school, which is necessary for their physical and cognitive development.

The presence of Bethesda schools in poor communities has brought us face to face with the realities of life in urban slums. A significant percentage of children growing up in these slums do not eat before they go to school every day. Research has revealed that a meal, particularly breakfast, helps children to assimilate better in class and improve their participation level. This will also serve as motivation for them to come to school. A total of 423 children are currently enrolled in our Ikota, Ilaje-Bariga, Matogun, and Ijaiye-Ojokoro schools. Sadly, these children come from families where meals, especially breakfast cannot be afforded.

This initiative in collaboration with the Bethesda Child Support Agency will give our esteemed customers and visitors the opportunity to make charitable donations whilst doing their food shopping or just visiting our website.

You will literarily be giving food off your table by selecting one or more of our “food off my table meal packages”. Note that your donations will not increase the service fee on your shopping invoice. Madam Sabi will augment your donations with food items to improve the quality of the food to be served to the children.

Thank you for your sacrifice to feed a child in school today.

This initiative is audited by the partnering organizations and periodic baseline assessments will be carried out and published here on and on to ascertain the children’s academic performance and general well-being. Measurable indicators would be the academic performance of the children. This is expected to improve due to improved school attendance, improved attentiveness, reduced dropouts and general health improvement.
